Evaluations, Player Draft and Season:
Freshman: The Freshmen stay in one group. This division runs as part-clinic and part-game as the coaches teach kids the most basic fundamentals of flag football.
Sophomre, JV and Varsity: Evaluations are tentatively scheduled for the evening of Thursday, July 25 and the mornings of Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18. All players in the Sophomore, JV and Varsity divisions must attend ONE evaluation session. Team drafts will take place on August 20 and 21. This is a recreational league, and we use the evaluation and draft process to try and assemble teams of equal physical ability. As a result, we do not accept requests to be placed with specific coaches or other friends in these divisions. Each team may have up to two coaches, and each coach will automatically get his son/daughter in the draft.
Senior Varsity: This is set up as a more competitive division. If you are in the Senior Varsity division (15-17 years old), and have a group of friends or teammates from your high school that would like to form a team, please reach out to me at
and I will place you on the same team. Players in Senior Varsity may also sign up as “free agents” and will be assigned to one of the Senior Varsity teams.
HEWYBL flag football typically draws players from Allentown, Cranbury, East Windsor, Hamilton, Hightstown, Millstone, Robbinsville, Roosevelt, West Windsor and other surrounding towns.
HEWYBL is a non-profit organization run 100 percent by volunteers. Each family is expected to donate at least one hour of time to help out during the season. We are looking for volunteers to lead the following efforts this fall:
Coaches and Assistant Coaches
Snack Bar (we’re looking for someone to eventually take over for Patricia)
If you can help with any of these, please make a note of it on your registration and/or email me at email@example.com
Games will start on September 3 and will run through the championship games and end-of-season BBQ on November 3. The game schedule will depend on how many players sign up, but in general, here is what to expect. We will not play on April 20 (overlapping Spring Breaks) or May 25 (Memorial Day Weekend).
Freshmen play on Saturday at 10 a.m. There are no practices.
Sophomore, JV and Varsity will play each Saturday – Varsity at 9/10 a.m., JV at 10/11/noon. and Sophomore at noon/1 p.m. During the month of September, these divisions will also play one weeknight game per week at 6 p.m. Sophomore will typically play on Monday/Tuesday, JV on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and Varsity on Thursday/Friday. Teams typically practice once per week for an hour to an hour-and-a half at a place and time decided by the coach.
Senior Varsity plays only on Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. and/or 5 p.m.
HEWYBL will provide each player with a set of sonic-pop flags and a reversible NFL Flag team jersey. You need to provide a mouth guard (players may not participate without one), cleats and shorts/pants (without pockets, if possible). Receiver’s gloves are acceptable, but not required.
We will hold a coaches clinic in mid- to mid-August. If you are interested in coaching, but feel you would like to have a better understanding of the game, how to run a practice, etc., please reach out to me at the address below so I can get you more details as they become available. We are a league run by volunteers and we DO need parental involvement, particularly as coaches.

It with great sadness to hear of the passing of Peter Marsch, who coached in our NFL Flag Football League for several seasons, including coaching this season Browns in the Varsity division. In addition to coaching, Pete was always eager to lend a helping hand wherever and whenever needed and was beloved by many of the young men and women he had the privilege of coaching.
We offer our condolences to his wife, Jill, his children Emily and Timothy as well as the entire Marsch extended family.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations to William Marsch on behalf of children’s education fund (indicate on memo line) @ 201 Meadowlark Drive, Hamilton, NJ 08690. These funds will be used exclusively as educational funds for Emily and Tim.
As many of you know, HEWYBL requires all coaches to take the Online Consussion Training offered by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). We are now rolling this awareness program to parents/guardians of our youth athletes. Attached is a link for the Concussions Awareness Fact Sheet which all should review. This Fact Sheet is also located in our Documents tab from the Home Page. The Online Concussion Training is required for coaches and recommended for parents and others helping to keep athletes safe from concussion. The free course takes only 30 minutes to complete and keeps our children safe.
