Sr. Varsity (15-17 years old as of March 1, 2019) -- $125
Evaluations, Player Draft and Season:
Freshman: The Freshmen stay in one group. This division runs as part-clinic and part-game as the coaches teach kids the most basic fundamentals of flag football.
Sophomre, JV and Varsity: Evaluations are tentatively scheduled for the evening of Thursday, March 14 and the mornings of Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17. All players in the Sophomore, JV and Varsity divisions must attend ONE evaluation session. Team drafts will take place on March 19, 20 and 21. We use the evaluation and draft process to try and assemble teams of equal physical ability. As a result, we do not accept requests to be placed with specific coaches or players in these divisions. Each team may have up to two coaches, and each coach will automatically get his son/daughter in the draft.
Senior Varsity: This is set up as a more competitive division. If you are in the Senior Varsity division (15-17 years old), and have a group of friends or teammates from your high school that would like to form a team, please reach out to me at
and I will place you on the same team. Players in Senior Varsity may also sign up as “free agents” and will be assigned to one of the Senior Varsity teams.
HEWYBL flag football typically draws players from Allentown, Cranbury, East Windsor, Hamilton, Hightstown, Millstone, Robbinsville, Roosevelt, West Windsor and other surrounding towns.
Game Schedule
Games will start on April 6 and will run through the championship games and end-of-season BBQ on June 9. The game schedule will depend on how many players sign up, but in general, here is what to expect. We will not play on April 20 (overlapping Spring Breaks) or May 25 (Memorial Day Weekend).
Freshmen play on Saturday at 10 a.m. There are no practices.
Sophomore, JV and Varsity will play each Saturday – Varsity at 9 a.m., JV at 10 & 11 a.m. and Sophomore at 11 a.m. & Noon In May, these divisions will also play one weeknight game per week at 6 or 7 p.m. Sophomore will play on Monday, JV on Tuesday and Varsity on Wednesday. Teams typically practice once per week for an hour to an hour-and-a half at a place and time decided by the coach.
Senior Varsity plays only on Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. and/or 5 p.m.
Playoff games will be held on June 1, 2 (Quarterfinals), 8 (Semi-finals) and 9 (Championships).
Equipment
HEWYBL will provide each player with a set of sonic-pop flags and a reversible NFL Flag team jersey. You need to provide a mouth guard (players may not participate without one), cleats and shorts/pants (without pockets, if possible). Receiver’s gloves are acceptable, but not required.
Volunteers
HEWYBL is a non-profit organization run 100 percent by volunteers. If you can help with coaching, fundraising (getting sponsors), the snack bar, etc. please note that on your registration and/or email hewyblflag@optimum.net. Each family is expected to donate one hour of time to help out during the season.
Coaches Clinic:
We will hold a coaches clinic in mid- to late-March. If you are interested in coaching, but feel you would like to have a better understanding of the game, how to run a practice, etc., please reach out to me at the address below so I can get you more details as they become available. We are a league run by volunteers and we DO need parental involvement, particularly as coaches.
